Outdoor Survival 101: The Essential Things You Need

If you’re a person who loves to go camping or hiking in places where you literally don’t get the usual conveniences of living, then it only means you should be carrying with you a survival gear all the time. Now the question is what should comprise this kit?

1 – Knife

Going to camping without a knife as part of your outdoor survival gear with you is simply dumb. A knife isn’t just for kitchen use; it in fact is an essential part of any survival gear. The reason why you can’t go out there without it is because it can do so many things that other outdoor survival gear and tools cannot. The list of functions that a knife does includes cutting practically everything like rope, cloth, and bandages, opening cans and packages, creating wood tools, and cutting food.

2 – Cordage

Rope is undoubtedly an essential part of any DIY survival gear. Keep in mind that when it comes to your chances of survival, the absence of a rope means that yours is very slim, unless of course you know how to make your own using stuff in the environment. Rope is used for things like building shelter, climbing, holding things together, lashing poles, fishing, making animal traps, and for attachment purposes.

3 – Water Container

This one right here needs no explanation. One of the most important things you should know about survival is that an average person is able to last for several days without food as long as there is access to drinking water. Therefore, the failure to bring any kind of hydration system or water storage will decrease your chances of surviving out there. You need to understand that not all water you get access to outdoors is clean.

4 – Signaling Equipment

When you’re camping and you suddenly found yourself in a survival situation, one of the first things you need to be focusing on is establishing contact with people. As the days go by without contact, you decrease your chances of being rescued. So as to be sure you have some aid in terms of establishing contact when you’re in a survival situation, always bring with you a signaling equipment. A mirror, whistle, and anything that can produce light will be of great help. Any signaling equipment must be considered as an essential tactical survival gear that you can’t afford to forget bringing.

Aside from those four, there still are so many essential survival things you must bring with you if you want to be sure you’re safe out there, even in the middle of the most challenging survival situations.
